Boston is well-known and one of the oldest cities in the USA. The Puritans settlers from England landed on the Shawmut Peninsula in September 1630; it was called like that by the Native Americans who were living there. But it was renamed like plenty of old American cities after a town located in Lincolnshire, England and became Boston.

Boston is the city and the capital of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and seat of Suffolk County in the northeastern USA. It covers 124 km2 with the population of almost 685,094 in 2017. It is the biggest and populous city in the New England region and the 23rd largest city in the US. Boston has an unusually small area for a major city, and more than 1/4 of the total, that includes part of the Charles River, Boston Harbor, and a portion of the Atlantic -is water.

Numerous early Revolutionary War battles were fought in or near Boston, and it was the home of relevant events in US history such as the American Revolution, the Boston Tea Party, the Battle of Bunker Hill, and etc. After the independence of the United States from Great Britain, it continued to be an important port and industrial center, as well as a center for education and culture being an international focus for higher education, and a world leader in innovation and entrepreneurship, which has more than 2000 startups. In 1897, America’s first subway was built in Boston - the Tremont Street Subway. It is also considered to be the 3rd in the world to use electric traction. But this is not all the distinguishes of Boston, it is also the home for the oldest park in the USA – the Boston Common. It was established in 1634 and remains one of the popular places for folks to gather. In 1849, the first Public Library was founded in Boston. It was not the first public library, but after the opening its first branch in East Boston in 1869, it became the first branch library system in the USA. In addition to this, the first chocolate factory in the country was opened in Boston in 1765 by Walter Baker. As regarding the education in Boston, some of the most well-known and highly ranked universities in the world are located nearby Boston. There are three major universities in the city, Harvard, Tufts and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and they are situated outside of Boston in the cities of Somerville and Cambridge, they are known as the Brainpower Triangle.

Boston also has visitors which amount estimates almost to 20 million and they are attracted by the city’s rich history.
